Tenuta san Giorgio (Toscana)
Tenuta San Giorgio was the brainchild of Guido Folonari, heir to one of the most historical Italian wine families, who decided to go it alone with his own ambitious wine project. “When I decided to start this adventure alone, what was I looking for? I did not even know myself. I was looking for a place that would thrill me. I was lucky enough to find it”. Now restored to its former glory, the estate is located in Castelnuovo dell’Abbate, in a beautiful setting of the territory of Montalcino. Guido’s philosophy is based on excellence, product quality, the constant search for self-improvement and on products typical to an identifiable territory that really show off their terroir.
Tenuta San Giorgio has been acquired by ColleMassari and it is now part of the prestigious group together with Grattamacco and oggio di Sotto

The San Giorgio estate is situated in an outstanding location, overlooking the Orcia valley and exposed to the climate of Mount Amiata. The natural elements co-operate to offer this area a very favorable dry climate, caused by the Mediterranean breeze coming from the west and the powerful temperature fluctuations between day and night, especially at the end of summer.
The Estate extends its property to over 146 hectares of which 25 ha are under vine and 26 ha are olive groves. The vineyards are positioned on steep rocky slopes, at an altitude ranging between 250 and 400 meters facing east and south-east. The training system is “Cordon Spur” with a very low yield per hectare.
The soil is rich of skeleton with an amazing presence of different kinds of clays and a mixture of tuff components. The only grape present is Sangiovese. Thanks to the peculiar position of the vineyards and the variety of the terroirs, this grape has plenty of space to express its complexity and personality.
