Gaierhof (Trentino)
“Négociant of grapes” is Gaierhof’s philosophy since the establishment of the company. The Togn family has forged a privileged relationship with local winegrowers, who provide Gaierhof with the best grapes production after decades of a relationship based on mutual trust.
Trentino is a sports heaven. Dominated by the Dolomites, the magnificent chain of Alpine mountains that has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009, this region offers a landscape perfect for rock climbing, hikes, and winter sports.
Trentino, comprising the southern area of the Autonomous Region of Trentino-Alto Adige, enjoys a wide range of natural features, a cornucopia of peaks and valleys, with a mild climate tempered by Lake Garda.
Gaierhof has always been located in Roverè della Luna, the northernmost municipality in the province of Trento. The town boasts a deeply-rooted wine-making tradition and enjoys its own distinctive climate, perfect for white grapes such as Pinot Grigio and Traminer. The Togn are today the foremost family business representing the municipality of Roverè della Luna, ambassadors to the world of the local vitivinicultural tradition

Trentino’s viticultural richness is the fruit of its unique geographical composition. An impressive range of white and red wines are produced in this most “nordic” of Italy’s regions, each of them linked to the particular character of an individual valley.
In general, the qualities peculiar to Trentino wines are represented by the crisp freshness of their bouquet and the elegance of their palate, making them very approachable, and never heavy.
The fruity Pinot Grigio, aromatic Moscato Giallo, crisp Müller Thurgau, intense red Teroldego Rotaliano, and the classic-method TrentoDOC sparkling wine comprise the icons of Trentino wine-making.
The supplying of grapes by Trentino grape growers constitutes a very characteristic local tradition. In 80% of the instances, the growers deliver their crop to cooperatives, of which they themselves are members, while the remaining 20% make wine themselves or sell the grapes to private wineries such as that of the Togns. |
Many of the families that today supply their grapes to Gaierhof are descendents of those who began their relationship with Germano, Luigi Togn’s father. Over those years, they kept their supply agreements by word of honour, a very traditional type of contract in local agriculture: payment for the grapes is postponed until the feast-day of San Martino, on 11 November, when most of the wine from the previous vintage has been sold.
